Our son is neurodiverse.

Our son is neurodiverse.

This is according to 2 paediatricians and 3 psychologists. There are those from the other camp who think our son doesn’t have ADHD: our family GP who we love but who is “old school” (his words not mine); the occupation therapist who helped us work out strategies for JJ’s executive functioning difficulties. And a long lost, well intentioned family friend who observed our son for 10 minutes. I can’t even remember his name. I think I’m ready to accept it…

Come on in!

Come on in!

Welcome to my life… Can I get you a cup of Earl Grey, Coffee (sorry instant only at our house), iced water……gin??? And why don’t you have a scone or biscuit? Store bought of course, because now that I’m the mum of two spirited children, I have not spare minutes left in my life to bake from scratch. Ah yes, I see you notice my Kenwood Mix Master…and yes, it is new. You see, I like to look at it…

Black Forest Cake.

Black Forest Cake.

It calls to me all the time. Does it call to you? There’s just something about chocolate, cherries, cream and liquor (if one chooses to use) that just goes together like it’s meant to be. Black Forest Cake is often our go to cake for our work celebrations because we haven’t met anyone yet, who doesn’t like Black Forest Cake. Even Mr H likes it, and apparently he’s not a cake person (ahem….liar, liar pants on fire). So, I was…

Happy End of the Year!!!

Happy End of the Year!!!

So here we are, at the end of a year that’s been like a Netflix movie. And thank goodness it’s over!! We often talk about how the years go so fast, but boy, didn’t this year just drag. It’s New Year’s Eve here in Brisbane, and I remember 12 months ago to this day, having a deep and meaningful with Mr H about trying to find that internal spark in myself after a challenging 2019. It was then he encouraged…

I hated scones…

I hated scones…

Absolutely loathed them. They were right up there with pavlova for me (obvious aside – I hate pavlova. Very un-Australian I know. And coming up to Christmas in Australia, I will now expect virtual tomatoes thrown at me. It’s like not knowing anything about AFL or whatever it’s called). I could never understand why people would go out of their way to have scones. Until I was pregnant with her Majesty, Queen Rani. Then Oh My Goodness! I couldn’t get…

Spirited Child Part 2….

Spirited Child Part 2….

Well hello! Welcome back. I hope you had a week without chaos. Or reduced chaos. That’s all we can wish for at the moment, right? At the moment, my 3 year old Queen is refusing to wear anything but pink tulle dresses. And to reduce the chaos I’m allowing it. I’m not a big fan of pink frilly dresses, but in some external battles you have to wave the white flag, so that you’re fully equipped for your internal battle….

well hello spirited child – part 1

well hello spirited child – part 1

So, I feel like we know each other well now. Or at least you know me. I know that I’m taking over the conversation. Sorry about that. It’s so like me. Here, cut this up, black forest cake. I’ve mentioned my son’s neurodiversity a few times now and I want to share a little more about how that journey unravelled. And yes, unravelled is a good word. I unravelled with it. First let’s set the scene. Briefly. Before I was…

Cheers To Grace!

Cheers To Grace!

This week was a big week for me. So, I went through Grandma Grace’s tin looking for something appropriate to share for such a big week. She must have had a big week herself at one point, because I found a recipe for homemade Baileys. Not really a high tea kind of item, but it seemed relevant at the time I was rustling through her tin. Homemade Bailey’s is always something I’ve wanted to make….a ‘wouldn’t it be nice to…

Hello Again!

Hello Again!

Wow. You came back! Possibly the virtual instant coffee or virtual G & T. Whatever it was it’s definitely great to see you again. Let me shove this rubbish of the chair – there, have a seat. I woke up this morning remembering how much my children are my Sun and Stars. Yes that is a little cheesy. And yes, I’m aware that it’s a GOT reference (I’m actually the only person in the world that hasn’t seen GOT). But…

The Treasure Chest

The Treasure Chest

Along the way I’m hoping to have a little something to share with you in my Treasure Chest. Things like resources around ADHD that pretty much saved (most of) my sanity; interesting topics; inspirational people; things of interest, etc. As I share, I would also invite you let me know if there’s anything that you’d like to share with all of us, that inspired you, saved you, educated you. I felt a bit of pressure coming up with the inaugural…

Bucket List Baking

Bucket List Baking

This is where I’m going to share all the recipes, I wish I had the time or energy to try. You’re in for a treat – yes, pun definitely intended! These recipes will be from my Grandma Grace’s recipe stash, an old biscuit tin full of ripped out magazine recipes; probably taken from the magazines they kept at the doctors. I suspect she probably ripped them out of the magazines whilst complaining about the long wait – my Grandma walked…
